On 2nd–3rd June 2026, the MusicSphere consortium gathered in Thessaloniki, Greece, for its first Use Case Meeting, hosted by the International Hellenic University (IHU) and LUTHIEROS. The visit brought partners closer to the rich heritage of ancient and modern pipe organs, with visits to the Greek Evangelical Church of Katerini, the Archaeological Museum of Dion, and the SEIKILO Museum of Ancient Music.

At the heart of the visit was the Hydraulis of Dion, an extraordinary ancient Greek water-powered organ and the focus of MusicSphere’s first use case. Partners explored its historical significance and the challenges of reconstructing an instrument that has survived only in fragments. Through 3D reconstruction, digital twins, acoustic modelling, artificial intelligence and immersive technologies, MusicSphere aims to bring this remarkable piece of musical heritage closer to researchers and the public, exploring how it may have looked, functioned and sounded in the ancient world. The second day focused on project progress, technical developments and collaboration, helping lay the foundations for the Hydraulis of Dion Digital Twin.
