A Collaborative Memory Platform for Cultural Heritage

MNEME is a large-scale, user-driven validation of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH). Through five pilots in Greece, Spain, Slovenia, Italy and France, it links museum and heritage collections into one shared knowledge graph, adding AI-assisted documentation, robotic 3D scanning and AR/VR storytelling. The result: real evidence and reusable tools that turn ECCCH into a practical, adoptable “collaborative memory” for Europe’s cultural heritage.

MNEME’s mission is to make Europe’s cultural heritage more connected, accessible and future-proof. Across four complementary pillars, the project links heritage collections through shared semantic data, uses AI to speed up documentation and condition assessment, brings immersive AR/VR storytelling to on-site visitors and remote audiences, and builds collaborative workflows so professionals across institutions can catalogue, conserve and exhibit collections together.

MNEME expects to deliver a validated, interoperable knowledge graph linking heritage collections across its five pilot sites, AI tools cutting manual documentation time by over 30%, and immersive AR/VR experiences boosting visitor engagement by over 25%. Beyond the pilots, the project will leave behind open-source software, workflows, guidelines and training materials, ready for reuse by heritage institutions across Europe long after MNEME concludes in 2028.
