HERITWIN, which is running five large-scale pilots in Sweden, Norway, Spain, The UK (Northern Ireland), and Greece has launched their first Newsletter! This will be published every three months and  contains news and insights about the project, its activities and progress.

HERITWIN advances the use of semantic digital twins and eXtended Reality reconstructions  to support conservation, education, public engagement, tourism, and interoperable European data spaces. The five pilots which will test the integration of workflows, reusable frameworks, educational resources and more in the ECCCH are:

  • Stockholm Exhibition (1930) Reconstruction – reconstructs fragmented multilingual collections held by museums, archives and research centres collaborate using digital twins, AI-driven metadata enrichment, adaptive content and federated workflows.
  • Telemark Canal Preparedness – monitoring and predictive control in a real heritage environment. Digital twins model risks such as humidity spikes, flooding and emergency evacuations, while AI supports hazard mitigation, adaptive regulation and stability control
  • Camino de Santiago Heritage Platform Validation – five Camino de Santiago organisations, focusing on the needs of small and medium-sized cultural organisations, .test bulk digitisation, multi-user sessions and diverse asset types, while connecting ECCCH with the Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage and the EOSC.
  • Intelligent Micro-Climate Control & Digital Twin Integration for Heritage Conservation – tests an integrated sensor, edge, cloud and action chain in real heritage contexts to safeguard fragile Neolithic remains in Northern Ireland.
  • Aphytos Archaeological Documentation & XR Exploration – Digital twins will reconstruct the stratigraphy and spatial context of buried sites and connect them with AR and VR environments for interactive exploration along with AI services to support content delivery and processing.
