DARIAH is organising a session dedicated to GLAM audiences on Friday, the 18th of September where ECHOES will be prominently featured by Giorgia Lo Nigro from CNRS. This is as part of the 2026 SSH Open Marketplace training series.
New training session: GLAM data and the SSH Open Marketplace
Cultural heritage collections held by galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM) are a cornerstone of arts and humanities research — but working with them brings its own data challenges, from fragmented standards to the gap between “metadata” and the real workflows researchers need to reuse this material responsibly.
This session is part of the SSH Open Marketplace Training Series 2026, an eight-part series of online hands-on workshops organised by the SSH Open Marketplace Editorial Board to strengthen FAIR and digital research competencies, following the FAIR-by-design methodology developed in skills4EOSC. This sixth session, “Thematic: GLAM institutions,” brings together speakers from the ECHOES project, the SSH Open Marketplace and ETH Zurich Library to look at cultural heritage and GLAM data specifically.
We will draw on work from ECHOES on knowledge commons, workflows and tools for cultural heritage data, look beyond metadata alone to the datasheet as a way of documenting a dataset’s full workflow, walk through implementing one in practice, and close with a live demo of a Collections as data workflow from the SSH Open Marketplace.
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
- Understand the specific characteristics and challenges of cultural heritage and GLAM data.
- Identify relevant tools, standards, and services for GLAM data in the SSH Open Marketplace.
- Apply FAIR principles to digitised and born-digital cultural heritage data.
- Integrate GLAM datasets into interdisciplinary SSH research workflows.
