As part of the EU-funded HERITALISE project, and building on the outcomes of the VIGIE2020/654 study on quality in 3D digitisation, a global survey is currently underway to gather insights from museums, libraries, archives, galleries, and heritage institutions involved in 2D and 3D digitisation.
Conducted in collaboration with Heritage Malta, the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage, ECHOES, the eArchiving Initiative, and the IIIF 3D TechnicalSpecification Group, this survey introduces the Memory Twin concept, an evolution of Digital Twins that embeds data, metadata, paradata, and interpretation to ensure cultural heritage is preserved and meaningfully reused.
The Memory Twin builds upon HHBIM and 3D models of both movable and immobile cultural heritage, aiming to support long-term preservation, contextual interpretation, and meaningful reuse of digital assets. This survey extends the scope to include not only museums but also libraries, archives, NGOs, and research institutions, focusing on both 2D and 3D digitisation efforts.
Your insights will help assess institutional readiness, uncover barriers and opportunities, and inform future strategies and policies for capacity building and cross-sector collaboration.
Whether you are a curator, researcher, technologist, or policymaker, your input will directly influence the development of next-generation standards and methodologies for digital cultural heritage.
We thank you in advance for your valuable contribution to shaping the future of heritage digitisation.
